Such real-time interactive participation must involve licensee presence in the location of the activity as it occurs or use of interactive technology by the licensee for the activity as it occurs. Self-contained or asynchronous activities (e.g., recorded presentations, reading, online study) that do not feature opportunities for dialogue and interaction for the licensee as the activity occurs do not qualify as real-time interactive participation in continuing education.

Also, no more than 20 CE hours can be in distance learning.

If an LMFT desires to provide teletherapy services, a minimum of 15 CE hours of initial training must be completed.

Areas to be covered in the training must include, but not limited to: (a) Appropriateness of Teletherapy, (b) Teletherapy Theory and Practice, (c) Modes of Delivery, (d) Legal/Ethical Issues, (e) Handling Online Emergencies, and (f) Best Practices & Informed Consent
