Crisis counseling in any form can be incredibly daunting to a wide range of clinicians, from someone right out of graduate school to some of the most experienced clinicians. It’s a different way of interacting with a client, and at times can feel incredibly overwhelming. Understanding “What is a crisis?,” which varies from individual to clinician. Discuss the types of crisis calls someone may receive, how to handle it, and what options there are at the end of the call. Explore the fears that may arise as a clinician, and how to manage them before, during, and after the call.. Generate a plan for new and existing clients to follow when a crisis occurs, in order to manage expectations of both client and clinician.

This is a non-interactive self-study course.

Instruction consists of 1 hour of video instruction and an evaluation.

Instructor(s)

Kelly Lannon, APC, BC-TMH, CMCC; an Air Force combat veteran, has a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from the Margaret Warner Graduate school at University of Rochester. Kelly completed her graduate work with the Canandaigua, NY Veteran Affairs. While at the VA, she assisted veterans in processing trauma, while coping with substance use concerns. After completing graduate work, Kelly continued to work in crisis intervention and suicide prevention with veterans, active duty military, and their families. Her therapeutic approach is based in Existential and Humanistic approaches, combining skills found in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to best serve individual needs.

How to Complete the Course and Earn Your Certificate

To receive your certificate of attendance you must complete the course in its entirety.

To complete a Training Video Course, one must register, log in, select the My Courses option from the menu items, click the Course Title, attend to the video content, and complete the course evaluation, then claim the certificate of attendance.

You can download or print your certificate of attendance by logging into your account, navigating to the course by selecting the My Courses option from the menu items, clicking the Course Title, scrolling to the Certificate of Attendance section, and clicking on the Certificate of Attendance link to either download it or print it.
