Description

Systemic Supervision over Telehealth

The reaction to develop telebehavioral health (TBH) practice strategies created many opportunities for couple and family therapists to develop a new set of TBH practice skills. As the emergency to provide TBH services abates, however, couple and family therapists are still using the technologies and skills developed during the pandemic to serve their clients. At the same time, the resources to provide education and supervision to TBH practitioners are reduced as compared to the initial lockdown. Further, couple and family therapists have experienced a learn-by-doing approach to both clinical work and supervision over TBH and may not have access to the resources to improve their supervision practices after the initial temporary period of training.

Finally, systemic therapists often privilege in-person interactions over electronic interactions, and this holds true for the supervision experience as well. When they do participate in supervision training it may be supervision training that is not dedicated to supervision practices online and instead about the supervision experience generally. In this workshop, participants will learn how the landscape of supervision has changed with digital technologies. They will learn the challenges and opportunities in systemic supervision via videoconferencing and learn strategies to enhance their systemic supervision.
