Should telehealth approaches be considered for the complex trauma client? Is it too risky? Working with the complex trauma client presents special challenges for the clinician choosing to work within the telehealth environment. Models and many tips are presented to learn how to assess and prepare your client for possible online work, as well as what security, ethical and documentation measures must be in place to ensure client and therapist safety and conformance to HIPAA requirements.

- Explain the challenges, risks, and also the benefits of treating the complex trauma client online.
- Discuss how telehealth can be used only if certain approaches are used.
- Distinguish between traditional models of face-to-face treatment of the complex trauma client and a telehealth model that must be utilized to provide safety for the client and for the therapist as well as conformance to HIPAA requirements.
- Describe how to tailor traditional models to adapt to the telehealth environment.
- Describe techniques and treatment strategies in working within the telehealth environment.
- Provide tips to therapists from survivors themselves that worked for them as they adapted to this new environment.

Eileen Aveni, LCSW, LMSW, ACSW, BCD holds a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work. She is an international expert in extreme trauma and dissociation and regularly speaks internationally to clinical and survivor audiences. She is currently in private practice in Fairfax, Virginia where she also does full-day or longer intensives and consultations for extreme and organized perpetrator abuse survivors and their therapists from around the US. She also maintains a very active online practice that serves both Virginia and Michigan. Eileen has been working with extreme trauma survivors for over 30 years. Eileen is the 2016 Past Chair of the Ritual Abuse/Mind Control/Organized Abuse special interest group (RAMCOA-Sig) - a division of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. She is a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, the National Center for Crisis Management, and the American Association of Christian Counselors. She is also on the boards of Survivorship.org, a national organization supporting survivors of extreme child abuse and ritual trauma and The Daniel Coalition, an advocacy organization for survivors of clergy sexual abuse.
