Instructors

Mitchell Fong has been a healthcare professional for about a decade. Mitchell has a Molecular Biology degree, Masters degrees in Public Health, and an MBA. Mitchell's telemedicine journey began in 2012 when he began researching the need for Telehealth in Rural Nevada, which ultimately was the topic for his public health professional paper. As a public and population health professional, Mitchell has been able to help develop strategic plans for the community and is dedicated to his mission of improving the care for the community - no matter the size or disparities that exist. Mitchell has been creating the telehealth roadmap for Renown and the Northern Nevada and California regions with a focus on closing the care gaps in a state that ranks 7th in size but 48th in provider access. As Director of Telehealth at Renown Health, Mitchell has focused on strategic partnerships, program management, as well as innovation and development of the entire telehealth program in alignment with the Renown mission.

Renown is a multi-hospital system located in Northern Nevada and the largest not-for-profit healthcare network in Northern Nevada. Renown began their telehealth program in 2012 and have been delivering quality digital care to partners across the state and Eastern Sierra Nevada communities. Renown's vision is to make a genuine difference in the health and well-being of the people and communities they serve.

Amy Hermes is an experienced healthcare provider with a demonstrated history of successful innovation and leadership. Her experience includes 23 years of combined clinical experience as both an RN and a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner. Amy also has over four years of experience as a Telehealth Director. Amy's achievements in her role as a Telehealth Director include the development, launch, and oversight of five inpatient telehealth programs, two outpatient telehealth programs, a teletherapy program, and a direct-to-consumer telehealth app. Amy received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Midwestern State University, Women's Health Certification from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and her Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on Executive Nurse Leadership from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Andrew Kauble is an experienced Information Technology leader at Renown Health, a multi-hospital system that is locally governed and locally owned. Renown is a not-for-profit integrated healthcare network serving northern Nevada, Lake Tahoe and northeast California and was an early adopter of telehealth in 2012. Andrew has a focus on collaboration, communication, and telehealth technologies and has spent over twelve years in the Information Technology field, with more than half of that in Healthcare IT specifically. His current priority is creating sustainable, efficient, and effective ways to deliver Healthcare through the use of Telemedicine equipment to underserved rural Nevada communities. Recently, he has achieved CompTIA Network+ and ITIL certifications and plans to continue furthering his education. Andrew enjoys spending his spare time with family and friends or on the track with the Reno Sports Car Club of America.

Raymond Barrett is the founder and CEO of the Telehealth Certification Institute, LLC (TCI). A licensed mental health counselor (LMHC and LPC), Ray is an innovator and leader in the field of telemental health. He’s an expert telehealth trainer, a respected speaker, and a trusted consultant.

Ray’s inspiration for TCI came from his clients that started asking him to conduct their therapy sessions over the phone. Ray had discovered a knowledge gap in mental health training. He wanted to fill that void with comprehensive and practical training in telemental health - so Ray created that training for himself and fellow clinicians.

Since 2014, TCI has delivered comprehensive telehealth training and consultation to a global network of more than 40,000 healthcare organizations and professionals. TCI now offers over 180 specialized courses, a vast array of telehealth resources, and ongoing free continuing education opportunities for telehealth providers. Among the most sought-after courses offered by TCI is the Telemental Health Training Certificate (THTC Certificate) program.

Ray played a significant role in developing the initial curriculum for the Board Certified Telemental Health credential (BC-TMH) for the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE). He reviewed every training module. He helped draft content, including questions for exams. He even wrote and developed the initial draft of one of the training modules: Telemental Health Settings and Coordination of Care.

The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) - the most respected organization for telehealth - recently overhauled its guidelines. Ray was on the writing committee that developed Best Practices in Synchronous Videoconferencing-Based Telemental Health in March 2022.

In 2019, Ray participated in a task force for developing a clinical rating process for mobile apps designed to help treat depression.  The recommendations were presented to ATA.

The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) is an independent, nonprofit organization that provides accreditation services worldwide at the request of health and human service providers. As part of the International Standards Advisory Committee (ISAC), Ray helped establish CARF’s standards for virtual services.

Ray also is a frequent speaker and consultant for professional organizations. He has presented for over 20 organizations since 2015.
